The Enderby Arts Council has asked me to do a presentation about The Solstice Conspiracy. I’ve been giving thought about to how to proceed. If you find yourself giving a presentation, launching your new book, or speaking on a specific subject, these suggestions might be helpful.

Please note that I’m making this up as I go along in an exercise to organize my own talk.

Topics to cover- Ask yourself questions :

  • How did the book come about?
  • Where did your ideas come from?
  • What about the writing itself? Were you already a writer when you started?
  •   How did the book get published, Traditional or indie?
  • What is the underlying theme of the book?
  • Are some of your characters drawn from real people?
  • You’ve been involved with the ‘Word on the Lake Writers Festival’. How has that influenced your writing?
  • How can I purchase a copy?

By asking yourself questions, you can form an outline to follow, helping you stay on track. I’ll read passages from the book, and answer questions as well. My character,  Mrs Peasgood, is painter. Aspects of this character came from several friends and a little bit of myself. I’ll bring some paintings to display on the stage, as Mrs. Peasgood’s painting style is similar to my own. This could add an interesting dimension to the presentation.

Bring visual aids to your presentation if you can. The audience attention span needs some energetic tweaking. Pictures help.  I hope this has been helpful. I know I feel more confident for having written an outline.

For those of you who live in this area, the event takes place on October 11th in Enderby, at the Enderby Drill Hall, 7pm.
