The internet gobbles up vast tracks of time, but you can put that time to good use by checking out writing sites. Many of these sites offer a plethora of information. I started writing in the mid-nineties, spurred into taking up the pen from an insistent story in my head. The library offered stacks of  books on writing, and I armed myself with how-to books every week. These books helped get me started. In recent years, I discovered a gargantuan world of writing knowledge on the internet.

I’ve noticed  a great generosity from writers offering tips and encouragement through their blogs. Not everyone can take the time or spend the money to go to a university, but there’s a lot of knowledge to be explored via the internet.

I recently read this quote from Ernest Hemingway from “Learn to Write”

“Nobody’s born knowing how to write; we all have to learn how to do it. Yet the myth persists that people who write well (or do anything well) are endowed with special talent. They are the chosen ones.”

This idea that ability or success relies entirely on talent is silly. Talent is helpful, sure. But the best and most successful authors study, practice, and learn. They develop good habits and commit to the craft. They work hard. It’s that simple.”  The full quote can be found  @ Writing forward.

Writing groups and the occasional workshop contributes tools and inspires confidence. If you enjoy writing for yourself or you have a story to release to the world, continue to explore the techniques of writing through books, writing groups, workshops, and classes. And be sure to tune into the many writing websites available on the internet.

Here are some of my favourite websites:
