There are many types of journaling options.  I’ll list a few to consider and hopefully you will find one that strikes a chord.

Gift Journal:  This journal is meant to give away. If you are a  grandparent for example, you might consider keeping a journal of the times you spend with your grandchild. Record what you did together, talked about, and the memorable events you have shared. Write down your loving feelings and how much you enjoyed your adventures together. You could present the journal as a gift for your grandchild’s wedding, or graduation.

A gift journal could be for anyone. You might write down the funny stories from family vacations and share them. I like to read the stories of past insanities when we are all together. We laugh a lot.

Personal Reflection:  Delving into some aspects of the past is not always easy, but it can help to provide insight and help you to move on. It’s a way of working through feelings.

Idea Journal:  This is particularly useful for writers and artists. Write down your ideas even if they sound way out there. Sometimes a wild idea can morph into an unexpected gem.

Record keeping Journal – Just the facts: Useful for stopping smoking, and dieting. If you are a writer, you can write down useful observations, perhaps a collection of character studies from around town, or setting ideas from your walks. Warning! If you keep a diet journal like I did, don’t follow my example and rip out the page listing ice cream.

Other Journals include Travel, A grateful journal, Goal journal, Art Journal, and, of course…..

The venting journal. Be sure to keep  that one  private. When letting it all out, we can write some pretty rough stuff. The journal can handle everything we throw at it. If you are angry at someone, instead of blasting them with words you’ll regret, write in the journal. Afterward, you’ll feel calmer and will be able to convey your feelings without the hurtful words.
